"Johnny"

Johnny is now 3.3 years old. When he was diagnosed on February 9, 2001, he had a vocabulary of about 50 words (but knew the alphabet and could count to 10) and was in his own world most of the time. We started ABA almost immediately (from 20-35 hours per week), followed by the GFCF diet a month later.

Although I have heard of recoveries from intensive educational intervention alone, or biomedical interventions alone, I think parents should investigate both. It's like a boat with a hole in it. You should bale like crazy with the ABA, but if you don't patch the hole causing the problem, it will be harder to keep the boat afloat. For Johnny, the ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), healing the gut (aka the "second brain"), and the diet have probably been the most important.
